HSE’s F. Paul Greene provides analysis of new DFS regulations for New York Law Journal

F. Paul Greene, chair of HSE’s Privacy and Data Security Practice Group, was featured in the Expert Analysis section of the New York Law Journal on October 24, 2016.

In his article titled “New Regulations Add to Complexity of Cybersecurity Compliance,” Paul analyzes the draft regulations published by the New York State Department of Financial Services (“DFS”) addressing cyber security in the financial sector.  Labeled as “first in the nation,” the draft regulations are sweeping in scope and reach well beyond core financial institutions, such as big banks and lenders.  Paul explores ambiguities in the regulations concerning, for example, who is covered, types of information protected, what qualifies as a cybersecurity event, and more.  Paul also explores the possible effect the regulations could have beyond the financial sector.
