11:30 am - 2:00 pm

HSE's Gregory Coughlin and Daniel Collins will be presenting at an upcoming Monroe County Bar Association event, "Accounting for Attorneys" on January 30, 2020.

Program Outline: Just as a patient's weight, blood pressure and pulse tell a lot about that person's health, a company's "free cash flow" and "debt-to-Equity ratio" tell a lot about the business's health. This program provides an overview of accounting, financial and tax concepts to assist attorneys in their day-to-day practices. In particular, this program will discuss:

  • A vocabulary of basic terms
  • Learning to read and decipher financial statements
  • Financial statement review in the M&A due diligence context
  • The components to a business owner's personal tax return
  • Tax Basis vs. Fair Value vs. Fair Market Value
  • Business Valuation Concepts, and applying them to drafting and litigating Buy-Sell Agreements
