Many employers use criminal background checks to screen job applicants or employees applying for promotions. While considering criminal conviction records can benefit a company, it can also cause harm if the use of criminal conviction information does not comply with the law. The recent uptick in litigation, penalties and settlements in this area suggests that most employers are not compliant. This webinar will help you navigate the state and federal law requirements when considering criminal conviction records or using third party background checks. It will also provide best practice tips that can help your company avoid costly litigation and tighten your hiring processes.

Join Harter Secrest & Emery attorneys Amy L. HemenwayIskra M. Bonanno and Anna S.M. McCarthy to learn how to:

  • Navigate the state and federal legal requirements when using a third party to conduct background checks
  • Use criminal conviction record information in a legally compliant manner
  • Apply best practices in hiring and record review to help you avoid costly litigation

For purposes of New York State Mandatory CLE requirements, this session will be eligible for at least 1.0 credit hour in the Areas of Professional Practice category and is designated as transitional and non-transitional.
