COVID Vaccine Sick Time: What Employers Need to Know

Benjamin E. Mudrick, partner in our Labor and Employment practice was recently interviewed by 13 WHAM News regarding the new COVID vaccine leave law. In the segment titled, “COVID Vaccine Sick Time: What Employers Need to Know,” Ben provides insight on the new NYS law granting public and private employees up to four hours of paid time off for a COVID vaccine shot. “I think most employers are trying to do their best, but it’s really hard to keep up-to-date with all the changing laws,” Ben stated, “It leaves a lot of questions for employers about when can they schedule the vaccination.” He warns that companies who don’t comply with the law can expect consequences and that requiring employees to get the vaccines can lead to lawsuits. He recommends employers be flexible and create incentives for employees to be vaccinated.
