What Employers Need to Know About Remote Workers’ Comp

Benjamin E. Mudrick, partner in our Labor and Employment practice was recently interviewed by Buffalo Business First regarding workers’ compensation claims for remote employees. In the article titled, “What employers need to know about remote workers’ comp,” Ben describes that while workers’ compensation laws weren’t drafted with the intent that employees would be working from home, employers need to know what to expect and how to handle claims from at-home employees now that remote work is more common. He said that while he’s not sure if the overall number of workers’ comp cases will increase, he suspects the percentage of claims that are work-from-home related will increase. Ben recommends employers have frank discussions with employees about what work-from-home looks like, when they should be doing it, and how they should be doing it to setup expectations.
