There is still no official plan for the New York State Senate and Assembly to return to session.  However, the Senate and Assembly have announced that they will be conducting a joint virtual hearing next Wednesday, May 13 to explore the federal response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on small businesses in New York State.  This will be the first of two hearings that the two houses will conducting to study the impacts of COVID-19. We will keep you posted on the scheduling and topic of the second hearing.

This morning, the Governor issued a new executive order that extends the rent moratorium for residents and businesses from June 20 through August 20. In addition, the executive order allows for tenants to use their security deposits towards the payment of rent and prohibits the imposition of any late fees or charges for late rent payments. 

Finally, earlier this week, the Governor announced that he was enlisting former Google CEO Eric Schmidt to head a commission that will help to reimagine the future of technology in the state. This commission will look at telehealth and tele-education issues and broadband in the state.
