The New York State Senate and Assembly have announced that they will return to session Monday, June 8. The agenda will focus on a package of criminal justice reform measures including the release of police disciplinary records in certain circumstances. The agenda will also include a handful of local legislation that did not get addressed during the regular session that occurred. We will be monitoring this session closely, and we will send you any bills of interest.
Over the weekend, the Governor made several announcements related to New York reopening. Yesterday, he announced that churches, temples and mosques will be able to open for regions in Phase 2 at 25% of building occupancy. Social distancing will need to be observed.
Late last night, the Governor signed an executive order that allows all commercial buildings to take the temperature of everyone who walks into their building. In that order, he also extended previous executive orders, that were set to expire today, that included provisions relating to the recognition of healthcare providers from other states and allowing for remote meetings and voting for certain entities.
This morning, the Governor announced that as the numbers continue to move in the right direction, starting June 26, in person graduation ceremonies of 150 people or less will be allowed. The Governor also indicated that he will be signing another executive order to allow for school budget votes to be extended until June 16. The original school budget vote deadline was this Tuesday, June 9, but many school districts around the state had issues that have delayed the mailing of their school budget vote ballots.
