Cohen, associate in the Private Equity and Venture Capital practice group received a “Pro Bono Heroes” award from the Volunteer Legal Services Project of Monroe County (VLSP) .
Cohen received the award during VLSP’s Art of Lawyering fundraising event, an annual auction that showcases art created by members, friends, and family of the legal community.
VLSP presented Cohen with their “Pro Bono Heroes” award in the Emerging Leader category honoring her for donating more than 90 hours representing survivors of domestic violence in divorce cases as well as preparing wills and advance directive documents for low-income seniors through VLSP’s Helping Elders Law Project (HELP-U). “Emily represents the very best of our profession as she is both an exceptionally talented attorney, and donates substantial time to giving back to our community. She is truly a hero to low-income people in crisis who desperately need competent and compassionate legal assistance,” said Tina M. Foster, VLSP Executive Director.
VLSP provides free legal help to low-income residents of Monroe County, New York who are facing non-criminal legal problems. Their services are provided by 1,600 pro bono volunteers who donate their time and talent to ensure that low-income people have access to the justice system when faced with serious legal problems.
Cohen represents corporate clients on a variety of financing transactions in connection with mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, restructurings, and fund formations, as well as drafting sale-purchase agreements, operating and partnership agreements, and revolving credit and term loan facilities.
Prior to joining HSE, Cohen was an associate at Fried, Frank Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, and at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, in New York City. She is a graduate of the University of Rochester and earned a law degree, magna cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
