Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, announced that Scott R. Simpson, counsel in the firm’s Health Care and Human Services practice, has been appointed to serve on The Friendly Home board of directors.
Part of the Friendly Senior Living continuum of caring communities, The Friendly Home is a skilled nursing home in Brighton, offering 24-hour care, rehabilitation, memory care and hospice care. Founded in 1849 as the Rochester Association for the Relief of Homeless and Friendless Females, The Friendly Home has a long and rich history of providing high quality care and services for older adults in our community. The Friendly Home is currently one of only seven facilities in Monroe County to receive an overall five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Simpson, who served as Assistant General Counsel at a large integrated health care system before joining HSE, counsels clients on federal and state compliance matters and voluntary self-disclosures, including those involving the federal and state fraud and abuse laws, practitioner compensation issues, government audits and investigations, patient privacy laws (i.e., HIPAA), managed care provider panel contracting, and medical staff and practitioner disciplinary matters. He also has extensive experience in facility and practice acquisitions and other health care transactions.
Simpson is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and earned his law degree, cum laude, from the University at Buffalo School of Law. In addition to his legal practice, he is active in several professional and community organizations including serving on the board of directors of Linden Knoll and Cloverwood Senior Living and as a member of the American Health Lawyers Association.
