Case Ted 2021 000 HSE Roc WebreadyHarter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, is pleased to announce that Edward (Ted) Case has joined the firm as a partner in its Health Care practice group. An attorney with more than 20 years of in-house health care system experience, he will focus his practice on counseling clients on complex health care regulatory and compliance matters.

“Ted’s experience in health care regulatory, reimbursement and compliance matters will be instrumental to the firm’s health care practice,” said Richard Yarmel, Harter Secrest & Emery LLP Health Care Practice Group Leader. “His insider’s knowledge and understanding of the mounting pressure health care providers and their in-house health care attorneys face will allow him to provide clients with very practical advice on identifying, mitigating and minimizing risks, while running successful compliance programs.”

In his new role with Harter Secrest & Emery, Case will counsel health care systems, hospitals, physician practices, long-term care facilities, and other health care agencies and providers on health care regulatory issues involving Medicare, Medicaid, the 340B prescription discount program, the federal Anti-Kickback, Civil Monetary Penalties and Civil False Claims Act laws. He will also advise clients on the effectiveness of compliance programs, responding to audits by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and other health oversight agencies, government investigations, and negotiating provider agreements.

Prior to joining Harter Secrest & Emery, Case was the Chief Compliance Officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from August 2019 to December 2021. He previously spent 18 years at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where his roles included Chief Compliance Officer (2016-2019), Senior Counsel for Health Care Reimbursement and Compliance (2006-2016) and associate counsel (2001-2006). Early in his career, Case was an attorney with Nixon Peabody LLP and Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft LLP.

Case received a J.D. from the Fordham University School of Law, cum laude, an Ed.M. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a B.A. from Bucknell University.
