Lascell Dave 2010 058 HSE Roc 0006WebReadyHarter Secrest & Emery LLP (HSE) pays tribute to Partner David M. Lascell who passed away at the age of 74.

A partner in the firm since 1999, David had an illustrious career as a nationally recognized litigator who handled major cases in insurance, employment, toxic torts, intellectual property and antitrust law. He was especially well known for his expertise in higher education law.  He served as counsel to numerous universities and colleges throughout the nation, and represented Grove City College before the United States Supreme Court in its landmark civil rights case.  He served on the Boards of Trustees of four colleges, was a director and founding board chair for the National Center for Non-Profit Boards (now called BoardSource), the chair of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, and chair of the Boards of Directors of both the Commonfund and United Educators Insurance Company.

David was also a fellow at the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Law Institute. Later in his career, he became deeply involved, as both an executive and co-owner, of AWH and Cinnabar corporations, roles that gave him deep personal fulfillment.

David received his A.B. from Hamilton College in 1963 and an LL.B. from Cornell Law School in 1966.

“Dave will be deeply missed at Harter Secrest & Emery,” said Firm Managing Partner Craig S. Wittlin. “He was a phenomenal mentor and leader at the firm, in the legal industry and in our community. Our deepest sympathies go out to David’s friends and family.”
