Amy L. Hemenway, a partner at Harter Secrest & Emery LLP (HSE), a full-service business law firm with operations throughout New York, will give a presentation in Corning this week to help employers understand and prepare for new Department of Labor regulations concerning white collar exemptions to the Fair Labor Standard Act’s overtime requirements. The program is being presented in conjunction with the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, February 25 at 8:30 a.m.
Last summer, the Department of Labor (DOL) issued proposed revisions to the regulations concerning white collar exemptions. Since the proposed revisions call for substantial changes to the requirements to satisfy the exemptions and avoid overtime, it is important for employers to understand how the changes will impact their organizations. The final regulations are expected to be released this summer. Hemenway’s discussion will focus on why the DOL is proposing changes, what changes are likely to be included in the final regulations, and what employers can do now to prepare for the changes.
