Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, announced that Emily R.L. Cohen, Timothy W. Menasco, and Lauren R. Mendolera have been honored by The Daily Record as “Up & Coming” Attorneys in the publication’s 2020 Excellence in Law awards.
The “Up and Coming” category recognizes attorneys who demonstrate professional accomplishment, community service, and a strong commitment to the legal profession early in their careers.
Cohen is a senior associate in the firm’s Private Equity and Venture Capital practice group who represents corporate, financial, and institutional clients on a variety of financing transactions in connection with mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, restructurings, tax-exempt bonds, and large multi-bank or syndicated transactions, as well as drafting sale-purchase agreements, operating and partnership agreements, and revolving credit and term loan facilities. In addition to her legal practice, Cohen is a member of the Emerging Leaders Committee at Volunteer Legal Services Project (VLSP). Before joining HSE, Emily practiced with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in New York City. She received her J.D., magna cum laude from Case Western Reserve University School, and her B.A. from University of Rochester.
A senior associate member of Harter Secrest & Emery’s Intellectual Property practice group, Menasco assists clients through the process of preparing and prosecuting patents in the U.S. and in countries around the world. He prepares patentability opinions, performs freedom to operate analysis, and negotiates technology transfer and licensing agreements. Additionally, he counsels clients through disputes, threatened litigation, and litigation involving patents, trade secrets, inventorship challenges and copyrights. Menasco serves as a board member on the Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Center. He received his B.S. from the University at Buffalo, cum laude, in Mathematical Physics, and his J.D. from the University at Buffalo School of Law.
Mendolera is a senior associate and a member of the firm’s Litigation practice group. She focuses her practice mainly on insurance and antitrust law litigation, but also has experience with commercial, intellectual property, securities, employment, housing, and government investigation matters. She conducts depositions, drafts briefs, argues motions, and participates in discovery for a wide range of clients. In addition to her legal practice, Mendolera serves as a board member on the Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP). Before joining HSE, Mendolera worked in New York City for Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. She earned her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University at Albany and her J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law.
