Harter Secrest & Emery Attorneys Honored by The Daily Record 2017

Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, announced that Julia Green Sewruk, Benjamin E. Mudrick, and Christine M. O’Connor have been honored by The Daily Record as winners of the publication’s 2017 Excellence in Law awards.

Sewruk was recognized in the Top Women in Law category, which recognizes the accomplishments of female attorneys who are making notable contributions to the legal profession while inspiring a positive change in the community.

A partner with Harter Secrest & Emery, Sewruk concentrates her practice in Higher Education law. She regularly counsels a variety of clients-such as higher education institutions, large and small corporations, municipalities, and individuals, on legal compliance, litigation, and dispute resolution. Sewruk has significant experience advising the firm’s higher education clients on Title IX compliance, including conducting investigations, developing policies and processes, and delivering required training. Over the past several years, she has been actively involved with the Empire State Pride Agenda, the Monroe County Bar Association’s LGBT Committee, and the United Way of Greater Rochester Women’s Leadership Council. Sewruk is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and received her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Wellesley College.

Mudrick and O’Connor, both senior associates with the firm, were recognized as Up & Coming Attorneys who demonstrate professional accomplishment, community service and a strong commitment to the legal profession.

Mudrick is a member of Harter Secrest & Emery’s Labor & Employment practice. He counsels employers on all aspects of the employment relationship, including hiring, discipline, termination, wage and hour compliance, equal employment opportunity, employee leave issues, labor relations, and employment litigation matters. Mudrick regularly represents employers in front of the Department of Labor, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Division of Human Rights, National Labor Relations Board and other administrative agencies. Mudrick is vice chair of the South East Area Coalition, and is an active volunteer with the Volunteer Lawyers Service Project and the United Way of Greater Rochester. Mudrick graduated from Brigham Young University and the University of Virginia School of Law.

O’Connor is a member of the Private Equity and Venture Capital practice at Harter Secrest & Emery. She represents public and private companies, including international, national and local clients, in connection with mergers and acquisitions, private equity leveraged buyout transactions and venture capital financings. She currently serves as the chair of the Board of Directors of the South East Area Coalition, and has been involved with the South Wedge Planning Committee, the Monroe County Bar Association’s Business Unit Council and the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys. O’Connor graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with high honors, and received her law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School, where she was an Honors Scholar.

The Excellence in Law winners will be honored at a luncheon on Thursday, June 1, at the Hyatt Regency Rochester, 125 E. Main Street.
