Harter Secrest & Emery Elects Three New Partners

Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, announced that Joshua E. Gewolb, Edward J. Snyder (E.J.), and Thomas M. Tuori have been elected partners in the firm.

A member of the firm’s Tax Law practice group, Gewolb has experience with a wide range of federal and state tax matters, and assists both closely-held and publicly traded businesses with corporate transactions, including asset and stock acquisitions, reorganizations, and spin-offs. He maintains an active practice advising not-for-profit entities, including colleges and universities, foundations, and trade associations, on tax and corporate matters. He is a frequent speaker on topics related to taxation.

Gewolb graduated from Harvard University, cum laude, and earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in the field of Tax Law. In addition to his legal practice, Gewolb is active in several professional and community organizations, including the New York State Bar Association and Monroe County Bar Association, Pathstone Development Corporation, Greater Rochester Summer Learning Association, Volunteer Legal Services Project, and Farash Institute for Jewish Education.

Snyder concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, general corporate matters, and commercial financing. He represents private equity and venture capital funds in all aspects of leveraged buyout transactions and venture financings, including company acquisitions and dispositions, financing, recapitalizations and add-on acquisitions, preferred equity structures, and equity incentive plans.

Snyder graduated from the University of Rochester School of Engineering before receiving his law degree, magna cum laude, from the University at Buffalo Law School. He was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyer® Rising Stars in 2015 and 2016, and is active with Young Audiences of Western New York, Leadership Buffalo, Kiwanis Club, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Tuori concentrates his practice in the environmental law area. He works with and counsels a variety of clients and he focuses on providing strategic advice and practical solutions. His expertise covers a wide range of environmental matters, including due diligence, brownfields, cost recovery, environmental insurance, permitting, and regulatory compliance. Tom has more than twenty-five years of diverse experience in the environmental field, including sixteen years of environmental consulting and project management experience prior to obtaining his law degree.

Tuori earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Rochester and earned his law degree, summa cum laude, from the University at Buffalo Law School, where he received an award for the highest academic achievement in his graduating class. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Independent Oil & Gas Association of New York, and the Town of Brighton Monroe Avenue Green Infrastructure Grant Project Committee.
