Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, is pleased to announce that the firm has been selected by The Daily Record to receive the 2019 Attorney of the Year Award in the Pro Bono category. The Daily Record’s Attorneys of the Year Awards honor outstanding attorneys through the Leaders in Law, Pro Bono, Judicial Excellence, and Lifetime Achievement categories. The Pro Bono Award is presented to a firm whose lawyers show a commitment to doing pro bono work, with a high percentage of lawyers who perform pro bono work and a significant number of pro bono hours donated by the firm.
Nominated by Volunteer Legal Services of Monroe County (VLSP), the firm has a long tradition of providing legal services to people and organizations who could otherwise not afford access to legal representation. “We consider it an important core value of our firm to help those in need and to support the organizations that address the underlying issues and challenges many face today in our communities,” said Craig S. Wittlin, HSE Managing Partner. HSE encourages its attorneys to perform at least 50 hours of pro bono services annually.
Highlights of HSE’s pro bono commitment include an established and active pro bono Committee, an annual pro bono recognition event, serving as pro bono counsel for and/or support to numerous organizations such as VLSP’s HELP-U program, VLSP’s Uncontested Divorce program, Women Helping Girls program of the American Association of University Women, The Office of the Public Defender/Monroe County, and the Campaign for Justice annual fundraiser, among other initiatives.
The 2019 Attorneys of the Year Awards will be presented at an event held on November 14, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Rochester, 125 East Main St. in Rochester. Winners will be profiled in a special magazine inserted into the November 15 issue of The Daily Record.
