Harter Secrest & Emery Receives Chairman’s Award from Seneca Diabetes Foundation

Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, was the recipient of the 2020 Chairman’s Award presented by the Seneca Diabetes Foundation during the Foundation’s 15th Annual Chairman’s Ball on February 1.

The Seneca Diabetes Foundation established the Chairman’s Award to honor an individual or organization who has supported the Foundation’s mission of providing education outreach, prevention awareness, and funding research to improve the lives of Seneca Nation members affected by diabetes. This year’s Chairman’s Award was given in memory of Barry E. Snyder, Sr., the Chairman and founder of the Seneca Diabetes Foundation and a five-term Seneca Nation President, who passed away in October.

“We are incredibly grateful to receive this award, particularly in memory of Barry Snyder, who was a remarkable leader, visionary and advocate for the Seneca people,” said John G. Horn, partner in charge of Harter Secrest & Emery’s Buffalo office. “Seneca Diabetes Foundation plays a critically important role in improving the lives and healthcare of the Seneca people. We are happy to support that work, and humbled to have been entrusted with the confidence of the Seneca Nation for nearly the past two decades.”

“In whatever Seneca Diabetes Foundation does and has done, Harter Secrest & Emery has been in lock step with us,” said Seneca Diabetes Foundation Vice Chairman Michael R. Militello, in presenting the award. “They have proven themselves to be extremely committed partners, not only to the Foundation but to the Seneca Nation and its people as well.”

Established in 2005, the Seneca Diabetes Foundation raises funds to support important diabetes education, research and treatment programs. In addition, the foundation provides scholarships for Seneca students pursuing higher education in the health and human services fields, and provides funding to health education, prevention, and wellness programs throughout the community. Over the past 15 years, the Foundation has raised more than $7 million, and has provided $500,000 in scholarship funding, along with forming vital partnerships with Western New York’s healthcare leaders, including Kaleida Health and Erie County Medical Center (ECMC).
