With spring on the horizon, many thoughts turn to the national pastime and the tradition of taking in a baseball game with family and friends. Thanks in part to the work of attorneys at Harter Secrest & Emery, that longstanding tradition will continue to be a part of Rochester’s identity for years to come.
For the past several months, attorneys from Harter Secrest & Emery, led by firm partners Daniel R. Kinel and John A. Anderson, worked collaboratively with the Rochester Red Wings baseball team to negotiate with Monroe County on a new lease for the team at Frontier Field. Team and County officials announced that a long-term deal had been reached on February 12.
The 10-year lease, which includes a mutual option for an additional 10 years, ensures that the Red Wings will be at home in Rochester for many years to come, and also provides for needed capital improvements to the stadium.
“Harter Secrest & Emery has been an invaluable partner to the Red Wings organization for decades, and their work on this long, difficult lease negotiation was exemplary,” said Naomi Silver, Rochester Community Baseball, Inc.’s President, CEO and COO. “With their assistance, we were able to ensure that Rochester’s 130-year tradition of professional baseball will continue. We could not be more grateful.”
“The Red Wings are a treasured community asset, and we wanted to make sure they would continue to be here for the long term,” Kinel stated. “It was a challenging negotiation process, but, by working together, we were able to achieve a good deal for the team that is also in the best interests of the community.”
