Rochester, New York, December 18, 2023 – Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, announced today that Melissa M. Valle has joined its Rochester, New York office as a partner in its Environmental, Land Use and Zoning practice.
Valle is an experienced environmental attorney who counsels and represents clients with respect to all manner of environmental legal issues, including regulatory compliance, permitting and enforcement; environmental litigation, including complex cases involving CERCLA and petroleum liability; SEQRA; due diligence; cleanup of contaminated properties; and Brownfield redevelopment.

Valle utilizes her experience, understanding of technical environmental issues, creative problem-solving, and energetic advocacy to help clients identify, analyze, and mitigate environmental risks; negotiate settlements and other types of resolution with government agencies and third parties; and, when necessary, pursue litigation to protect and further her clients’ interests.

Valle currently serves as co-chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Petroleum Spills Committee and as a member of its Environmental and Energy Law section. She also serves as a chair of the Genesee Finger Lakes Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association.
Prior to joining Harter Secrest & Emery, Valle was a partner with Knauf Shaw, an environmental law boutique firm in Rochester, New York. Valle earned a J.D., cum laude, from Roger Williams University School of Law, and a B.S. in environmental studies and policy, summa cum laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
