Buffalo, New York, March 23, 2025 – Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, is pleased to announce Partner John G. Horn is a recipient of the Community Ally Award from the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York, Inc.

The NFJC Community Ally Awards are given to a person or group that supports a marginalized community. Community Allies work to create equity and improve conditions for all people, especially those who have been marginalized. Community Allies advocate, educate, listen, take action, and reflect on what they can do to make communities better. Additionally, Community Allies believe in the mission and work of the NFJC which is to facilitate conversation across human differences to create mutual understanding and respect. 

Rene Petties-Jones, President and CEO of NFJC, explains why Horn was chosen: “John was chosen for his tireless commitment to all the principles above. As our former NFJC Board Chair, John led the way with discussions surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. During his tenure, he was instrumental in establishing an updated NFJC mission statement and connecting our organization to members of the community to help bridge those divides.”

A partner in Harter Secrest & Emery’s Litigation practice, Horn has litigated complex business, construction, Native American law, and environmental disputes in state, federal, appellate, and tribal courts, as well as in mediation and arbitration. He has been selected as a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America-Trial Lawyer Honorary Society. Horn is recognized by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America®, and Super Lawyers and is the recipient of the 2020 Community Leader Legal Award from the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York.

Horn earned a B.A. from the University of Rochester, an M.A. from Northwestern University, and received a J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He is active in several professional and community organizations, including serving as director of the Minority Bar Foundation and a Diversity & Inclusion Council member for the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. Horn was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. Horn served as Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Buffalo office from 2009-2023. With decades of volunteer work for community and civic organizations throughout Western New York, Horn currently serves as Chair of Harter Secrest & Emery’s Inclusion and Equity Committee.
