Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, is pleased to announce that partner Joseph G. Casion has been selected to receive a 2017 Attorney of the Year Award by The Daily Record.
A total of 15 members of the legal community throughout the area are being recognized for their outstanding work. Casion will receive the Leaders in Law Award, which is presented to attorneys who demonstrate professional accomplishment; exceptional character, integrity and ethics; and commitment to their clients and the community.
As a member of Harter Secrest & Emery’s Health Care and Human Services practice group and leader of the firm’s Not-for-Profit Organizations practice group, Casion provides corporate counsel to both for-profit businesses and not-for-profit organizations. He works with clients on formation, governance, structuring, transactions, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and compliance with associated federal and state requirements.
“I’m honored to be recognized among the 2017 Attorney of the Year Award winners,” Casion said. “Watching a client or community organization succeed is the best part of my work. Being an attorney puts me in the position of helping others. That philosophy remains an important part of our firm’s DNA and is how I work every day.”
Casion was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© 2018 in the field of Closely Held Companies and Family Business Law. He was also selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers® from 2013-2014, and is a past recipient of the Forty Under 40 award from the Rochester Business Journal in recognition of his professional achievement and community involvement.
In addition to his legal practice, Casion is involved as a volunteer with several not-for-profit and community organizations. He served as chair of the Empire Justice Center board of directors, and is currently chair of the Friendly Home board of directors and secretary for Foodlink and the Al Sigl Foundation boards. He is also actively involved with the New York Funders Alliance and the Monroe County Bar and New York State Bar Associations.
“The Attorneys of the Year in 2017 are exemplary. Every day they demonstrate excellence and achievement in the legal profession in addition to devoting time and talent to the communities in which they live and work,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record. “Their hard work and talent are to be admired. The Daily Record is pleased to honor them.”
The 2017 Attorneys of the Year Awards will be presented on November 15 at a reception and dinner at 5:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Rochester, 125 East Main Street in Rochester. Winners will be profiled in a special magazine insert in The Daily Record’s November 16 issue and will also be available online at www.NYDailyRecord.com.
