For close to two decades, Doug has been advising clients on domestic and global patent prosecution, as well as patent portfolio management and strategy development. He thrives on understanding intricate technologies and collaborating with clients to develop comprehensive strategies designed to protect a diverse array of inventions. Holding a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry and a B.S. in chemistry, Doug specializes in chemical technologies. His expertise extends to areas such as:

  • Chemical and biotechnological instrumentation
  • Ceramic and composite materials
  • Biopolymers
  • Prosthetic and orthotic implants and devices

He also has extensive experience with mechanical arts including:

  • Electronic door lock systems
  • Firearms
  • Aerospace technologies including air refueling systems and pilot safety systems.

Doug counsels clients on the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, conducts patentability searches, prepares patentability opinions, and performs patent infringement and validity analyses.

He is an author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles, and has given several national and international scientific presentations.

Prior to joining Harter Secrest & Emery, Doug practiced with Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP in Rochester, New York, and Kloss, Stenger & LoTempio in Buffalo, New York.
