Ryan is an associate in the firm’s Specialty and Industry Specific Litigation practice group, with a concentration in Privacy and Data Security law.
As a member of the Privacy and Data Security team, Ryan counsels clients concerning vendor contracts and acquisitions, best practices to avoid a data breach, regulatory compliance and risk assessment, post-incident response, and assists clients in the event of litigation or regulatory action. Ryan has an in-depth understanding of state-by-state privacy laws concerning breach notice requirements to affected consumers, and government entities.
As an experienced litigator, Ryan represents businesses in various types of commercial disputes, and has successfully argued before the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Divisions, United States District Courts, and United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
He has experience drafting legal memoranda, vendor agreements, conducting legal research, reviewing commercial contracts, taking and defending depositions, drafting complex motions and appeals, and arguing motions and appeals in state and federal courts throughout New York.
While in law school, Ryan was the Assistant Chief Hearing Representative for the University at Buffalo’s Office of Student Conduct and Judicial Affairs. In this role, Ryan drafted complaints and determined just and equitable discipline for students who violated UB’s Student Code of Conduct, while taking the victim’s perspective into account. With Ryan’s delicate and caring approach to many difficult situations, there was a low percentage of repeat student offenders while he was in office.
