New York Jury Service Compensation Rate Increases to $72 per Day, Effective June 8, 2025

New York employers should be familiar with Section 519 of the Judiciary Law, which protects employees from retaliation based on absence from work for jury service and requires that employers with more than 10 employees pay at least $40 per day for the first three days of jury service.

Effective June 8, 2025, that longstanding compensation requirement is increasing. As part of the state budget passed in May 2025, Section 519 has been amended to raise the minimum daily jury duty compensation for covered employers from $40 to $72 per day for the first three days of service.

See the updated law here.

Employers should review and update their jury duty policies and internal payroll procedures to ensure compliance with the new requirement.

As a reminder: Exempt employees who perform any work during a week in which they are on jury duty must be paid their full salary under applicable wage and hour laws.
